Radisson Hotel Saskatoon, the city's largest hotel, is celebrating its 25th year milestone with completion of a $5 million makeover to all of its guest and meeting rooms.

While the hotel was continuously refreshed over the years, this is the first complete renovation of its rooms. It includes all new carpets, furniture, bedding and bathrooms with granite countertops, all done in contemporary décor reflecting a sophisticated palate of neutral and navy tones. The meeting rooms have also received a refreshed look with new carpet and paint.

"We are pleased with our room updates and think that our guests will find our new look fresh and inviting," says the hotel general manager Patty Schweighardt. "The addition of flat screen TVs with HD technology will also be well-received, particularly with business travellers."

And the renovations are not ending here. The next phase of changes will take place over the course of the year and include a $2 million cosmetic and structural renovation to the lobby, conference space and waterworks area which includes two three-storey waterslides and pool.

For Schweighardt, the renovations are a fitting way to celebrate a long history of helping visitors enjoy the city. As staff reflect on the past 25 years, they are also looking forward to an exciting future ahead with the revitalization of the hotel as well as building upon a demonstrated commitment to the environment.

The investment in the environment landed the Radisson Hotel Saskatoon recognition by Saskatchewan Tourism with the "Land of Living Skies" award for environmental leadership. The hotel has enthusiastically taken up the challenge to run a 'green hotel'. In addition to the establishment of a 'green team' comprised of passionate and informed associates who champion the cause in the hotel, all staff are encouraged to look for innovative and creative ways to help the environment in their own jobs.

Presently the staff and management already ensure that waste and energy consumption are reduced. Several initiatives include extensive recycling that extends to furniture and kitchen oil, regulating room temperatures to save energy and donating soaps to local charities. The renovations were also managed in a green way, with all possible materials being recycled and repurposed.

"We are 100 per cent committed to reducing our carbon footprint," Schweighardt says. "Our 25 year anniversary celebrates our past, but our dedication to operating a 'green' hotel is our future. It's important to our guests and it's important to us," she says.
