Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the world's largest and most dynamic hotel groups, today shared results from its 2013 Responsible Business Action month. Each September across the world, Carlson Rezidor hotels are encouraged to take action in their hotels and throughout their local communities by organizing social and environmental service activities. This year marked the 10th anniversary of Responsible Business Action Month.
During this month long campaign, contributions of nearly $200,000 were raised globally by Carlson Rezidor hotels to benefit the World Childhood Foundation (Childhood), through initiatives such as an online eBay auction that featured hotel stays and exclusive products; the third annual Charity Gala Dinner and silent auction hosted at the Radisson Blu Sydney with all proceeds donated to Childhood; our Club Carlson hotel loyalty members were invited to donate their Gold Points to Childhood with the Carlson Family Foundation matching the value of the points donated.
This year, hotels from Barbados to Beijing, the U.S. and beyond, participated in World Clean Up 2013, a global movement that organizes volunteer groups and organizations to clean up illegal garbage in nearly 100 countries. Throughout the Americas, Carlson Rezidor hotels also donated staff time to build homes through Habitat for Humanity; stuff backpacks for underprivileged school children; send care packages to the military; make dinners for families in-residence at local Ronald McDonald Houses; and planned activities that raised money to support local charities, food banks, animal shelters, and international orphanages.
“We know the importance of being responsible corporate citizens in the communities we serve, so I am always pleased when our 85,000 employees in 85 countries demonstrate the depth of their service hearts by giving back to their communities and making a positive difference globally,” said Thorsten Kirschke, president, Americas.
Responsible Business Action Month is Carlson's overall Responsible Business strategy. It addresses how the company interacts with all of its stakeholders, including its people, its customers, its partners, its suppliers, the environment, governments, and the communities in which it operates. About Let's Do It!/World Clean Up
One of the fastest-expanding civic movements, Let's Do It! was born in 2008 in a little country in Northern Europe – Estonia. 50,000 people came together to get rid of 10,000 tons of illegal garbage from roadsides, forests and towns, cleaning the entire country in just 5 hours. A network of people, determined to organize massive cleanup actions to clean their home countries, started to grow. Today, more than 100 different inspired cleanup actions, engaging more than 5 million volunteers, have taken place around the world. http://www.letsdoitworld.org/about
